Community:
Develop trust over time in a small, supportive cohort.

Continuity:
Develop a steady rhythm for your writing life.

Curiosity:
What if you had permission to play?

β€œThe secret is to keep adding voices, adding ideas, and moving things around as you put together your life. If you’re lucky, putting together your life is a process that will last through every single day you’re alive.”

The Rhythm: Three Weeks On, One Week Off.

We’ll play with different approaches to writing practice every month, allowing for the natural ebb and flow of any creative process. But we’ll do it on a schedule – great for people who enjoy freedom within structure.

Together, we will cultivate a container premised on curiosity.

What happens if I try this…? What happens when I stop doing that…?

Rather than aiming to produce fully developed work, our focus will be on generating new pieces, finding more ease, and trusting the process.

  • Discover (or continue with) the magic of writing β€œ11s.”

  • Practice generating new works of prose (or poetry!) each month.

  • Experience the thrill of writing to a timer in β€œreal time.”

A win-win for your writing and your heart.

Magical things emerge when we make time to write. Even more magical things happen when we get to share the benefits of our process in good company. Joining a small, supportive creative cohort fosters more flow, contributes to a sense of belonging, and leads to deeper self-compassion.

Please note that this is not a β€œwriting workshop” in any conventional sense. Our focus will be on offering encouragement, accountability, experimentation, and freedom, not craft or criticism.

β€œEverybody
loves butterflies.
But I trust
the caterpillars more.
I trust the ones
who know
they aren’t done.”
— Andrea Gibson

The Flow

From September to June, we will follow a rhythm of meeting on Zoom for three consecutive Tuesdays followed by a β€œrest” week.

Week 1:
Each writer will write 11 things to bring and read out loud in the group. We will have the opportunity to share reflections and comments. At the end of week 1, each writer will select something from their 11s to use as a prompt for week 2.

Week 2:
Each writer will bring a new piece of writing based on a spark from your 11s. Again, we will share, reflect, and connect.

Week 3:
β€œReal-time” writing: We will do a timed, prompted freewrite together, exploring the practice of writing β€œalone together” and experiencing what happens for us when we just show up and write.

The Ebb

After each three-week cycle, we will have a β€œrest” week.

Why?

The creative process is not linear and we are not machines. Building in time to rest opens up the space for our minds to wander, our subconscious to synthesize seemingly disparate things we may be taking in and pondering, and our lives to unfold.

Rather than relating to β€œebb” periods with fear, these rest weeks help us internalize the knowing that it is natural and needed to have down time.

Praise from Past Participants

β€œSomething in me has resurrected after being dormant for a long time. The simple act of writing and reading others’ words has helped me to say to myself, yes I can do this. ”

β€œThe world is more alive since writing 11s.”

β€œThe blank page filled up with words, my words that say something about something. I am alive.”

β€œI’m starting to take myself seriously as a writer.”
