The Republic of the Body

“Love must be incarnated in the smallest pore of the skin, the smallest cell of the body, to make them intelligent so they can collaborate with all the other ones, in the big republic of the body. This love must radiate from you to others.” ~ B.K.S. Iyengar

About the group

A brand new four-week writing group is for anyone who wants to discover or deepen their writing practice, with the use of prompts inspired by the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar as well as other traditional sources. We will freewrite without stopping, three days/week for 10 minutes at a time. As with all of my groups: You do not have to be good (or have any actual yoga experience). You just have to be willing to take your seat and see what happens.

Details + Schedule

The parallel teachings and practices of yoga and writing are rich and full of jewels. Whether you are a lifelong yogi or have never set foot on a yoga mat doesn’t matter; we can all benefit from the wisdom of this ancient practice. And whether you’re an award-winning writer or someone who talks and thinks a lot about wanting to write but struggles with sticking to a regular practice, this group is for you. In other words: All are welcome.

A series of 10 prompts will be delivered to your inbox on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule.

We will write alone, but come together in a secret Facebook group to share our words and discoveries along the way.

During the final week, there will be a 90-minute Zoom call, where we will get to see each other’s faces, write together in real time, and hear each other’s voices.

Enjoy the benefits of knowing that other people are practicing, too, and care what you’re up to. Know that your words will be met with encouragement and support, not critique, comparison, or judgment.

“Jena’s freewriting groups are not only a cure for my perfectionism but also a way for me to build trust in myself. When I choose to trust my instincts and write what wants to be written and then share it despite the voices that tell me I shouldn’t, I’m building trust in myself as a writer and as a person.” ~ Tanya Slavin
